Little kids and lanterns flood the streets during Costa Rican Independence Day (or Central American Independence Day) on September 16. It is eerily beautiful to see lights bobbing up and down dimly lit streets in Coco, Costa Rica.

Why did we choose Coco? Well besides the fact it was suggested to us by a blogger friend, we wanted something a little more low key than some of the surfing party towns with waaaay too many tourists.

I loved this fishing village with an expat community.

Our home for a month, Coco, Costa Rica captured our hearts. So beautiful and secluded, this little gem is full of expats and fisherman which gives it a distinct feel.
